Vascular
Varicose Vein Assessment and Treatment
Varicose veins are enlarged or twisted veins that commonly affect the legs. They may cause aching, heaviness, swelling, itching or skin changes, although some patients seek assessment because the veins have become more visible or are getting worse.
A specialist vascular assessment helps identify the cause of your symptoms and the veins involved. Where appropriate, a duplex ultrasound scan may be used to assess blood flow, detect venous reflux and help plan the most suitable treatment.
Depending on your clinical findings, treatment options may include radiofrequency ablation (RFA), endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), foam sclerotherapy or phlebectomy. Your consultant will explain which option may be appropriate following assessment.
Consultant-led assessment is provided by Mr Sandip Sarkar, with vascular ultrasound provided by Kate Crawford, Accredited Vascular Scientist.

Explore treatments →Spider and Thread Vein Treatment
Spider veins and thread veins are small red, blue or purple veins visible close to the skin’s surface. They commonly appear on the legs or face and are different from larger, raised varicose veins, although some patients may have both.
An assessment is recommended to confirm the type of vein and whether treatment is suitable. This is particularly important when visible veins are associated with aching, swelling, skin changes or larger varicose veins.
For suitable surface veins, sclerotherapy may be discussed depending on their size, location and clinical assessment. Your clinician will explain the available options and whether more than one treatment session may be required.
Consultant-delivered specialist care
Assessment, investigations and treatment planning across veins, heart, skin and men’s health.
Assessment first
We first confirm whether the visible veins are thread veins, varicose veins or a combination before recommending treatment.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy may be considered for suitable thread veins depending on their size, location and clinical findings.
Heart Screening and Investigations
Call 999 if you have severe or persistent chest pain, sudden breathlessness, collapse or symptoms that may represent a medical emergency. This website is not an emergency service.
Private Dermatology and Skin Clinic
The skin clinic provides consultant-delivered assessment of moles, changing lesions, lumps and bumps, acne, eczema, psoriasis and other persistent skin concerns. A diagnosis must come before treatment.
Lesion removal is not automatically required. Procedures, tests or pathology may have separate costs. Concerning or changing lesions should be assessed promptly. Your dermatologist is Dr S Tharakaram.
Men’s Health and Urology
Men can arrange a confidential consultant urology assessment for urinary symptoms, prostate concerns, blood in the urine, sexual health, fertility, testosterone concerns, and foreskin or genital concerns.
Your consultant urologist is Mr Marius Rebek
Blood in the urine should be medically assessed, even if it happens only once.
