Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) - london bridge
Gentle, Precise Treatment for Varicose Veins
At London Bridge Healthcare, we offer Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) — a safe, minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency. This advanced procedure uses targeted heat to close damaged veins, restoring healthy circulation and improving the appearance and comfort of your legs.
What Is Radiofrequency Ablation?
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a non-surgical procedure that treats enlarged or malfunctioning veins, particularly the great saphenous or small saphenous veins — common sources of varicose veins.
The treatment involves inserting a thin catheter into the diseased vein under ultrasound guidance. The catheter delivers radiofrequency energy, which gently heats and seals the vein shut. Blood flow is naturally redirected to healthy surrounding veins.
Conditions Treated with RFA
Varicose veins
Chronic venous insufficiency
Leg swelling, fatigue, and heaviness
Skin changes or venous ulcers
RFA is both a medically necessary and cosmetically effective option — and may be covered by insurance when used to treat symptomatic vein disease.
Benefits of RFA
Minimally invasive: No surgical incision required
Quick recovery: Most patients return to normal activity within 24–48 hours
Highly effective: Closure rates above 95%
Less discomfort and bruising than traditional surgery
Performed in-office with local anesthesia
What to Expect During the Procedure
01
Vein Mapping
Ultrasound is used to locate the problem vein and guide treatment.
02
Local Anesthesia
The treatment area is numbed for comfort.
03
Catheter Insertion
A small catheter is placed into the vein.
04
Radiofrequency Delivery
Heat is applied along the length of the vein, sealing it closed.
05
Compression
A compression stocking or bandage is applied to assist healing.
The procedure usually takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the size and location of the vein.
Aftercare & Recovery
Compression stockings are worn for about 1–2 weeks post-treatment.
Walking is encouraged to promote circulation and healing.
Mild bruising or tightness is normal and temporary.
Most patients experience relief from symptoms quickly, with visible improvements continuing over the following weeks.
Is RFA Right for You?
If you’re experiencing varicose veins, leg discomfort, or skin changes due to poor circulation, Radiofrequency Ablation may be an excellent treatment option. During your consultation, our vascular specialists will perform a vein ultrasound to determine if RFA is appropriate for your condition.
